Aalborg to Skagen
Råbjerg Mile and Grenen
Explore the stunning landscapes of Denmark on a scenic day drive from Aalborg to Skagen. Get settled into your luxurious Mercedes AMG GTS and head north on the E39 for a trip of around 100 km.
Skagen is located at the very tip of Jutland Island and offers a fabulous, vibrant tourist spot of sun-filled sandy beaches, a rich art heritage and trendy eateries. It makes the perfect get-away for a romantic drive in your coupé.
Make your first stop a little to the west of Skagen, in the town of Hirtshals. Here you can explore the fascinating Nordsøen Oceanarium which offers a huge variety of sea creatures. The centre tank is 22m by 33m big and resembles the North Sea. Inside you will find saithe, turbot, sea-bass. spiny dogfish, skates and ocean sunfish.
Enjoy a breakfast at Normann’s where you can sample traditional Danish treats. Drive to Skagen and head for the Råbjerg Mile. This unique landscape is a massive expanse of drifting sand dunes, The undulating 40m high hills are fun to explore. Learn how they move inland at a rate of 15m per year.
Take a drive around Skagen’s older neighbourhoods – they are picture-perfect, filled with distinctive yellow houses, red-tiled roofs and classic white-picket fences. Snap some photos for your album and then drive to the bustling waterfront. Here you will find art galleries, fun ice-cream shops and water-side eateries. Stroll around and do some people watching.
Stop in at the famous Slagter Munch, a butchery with a huge reputation. Choose some award-winning skinke, sausages and salads for a picnic at Grenen. Grenen is located at the northern most point of the Island. This finger-shaped sandbar is where the waters of the Kattegat – an arm of the Baltic Sea, and the Skagerrak, part of the North Sea, clash with massive tides. Dip a foot into these exotic waters – swimming is not allowed. Lay out your towels, enjoy your picnic and get a sun tan in this unique spot.
As evening falls, settle down at the Skagen Bryghus, a microbrewery where you can sample the award-winning Drachmann Pilsner, enjoy the vibe and the music.
