Driving your high-class Porsche Cayenne SUV is a great way to explore the Island of Als in Denmark. This island still has traces of Ice Age glaciers that have formed the landscape into beautiful hills, valleys, lakes and coves.
Start your trip in the south in the city of Sønderborg. Head for Dyvig Bro, a charming and picture-perfect restaurant set on the lake. Enjoy a great Danish brunch before heading off for a day of fun. Your next stop is Universe, a massive amusement and science park that will delight both kids and adults. Experience virtual reality games, electric cars, a 5D simulator and an astronomy dome. This is a great learning experience while having fun!
Your next stop is the Hjortespringbadet where you will find a unique replica of an ancient Viking canoe, built by the locals. You can sail along the Lake in the canoe and learn all about Vikings and their love of War. Stop and see the Havnbjerg Molle, a stunning classic ancient Windmill, towering above the town on a hill. Snap some photos to show off on social media! Your next stop is the Dybbol Banke History Centre. Here you will be awed by live actors, sets and props, recreating stories and personal experiences of the War.
Travel north out of Sønderborg via Oksbølvej for a trip of around 25 km to the city of Nordborg. The most famous attraction here is the Nordborg Castle. It was built around 1150 and was positioned inland, so that it could not be attacked without warning. Learn all about this fascinating place of refuge which is used today as a boarding school.
Time for a bite. Drive to Friends, a cosy restaurant where you can enjoy cake and coffee or a Danish lunch. After lunch, drive to visit Egen Church where horse lovers can admire some of Denmark’s most beautiful and well preserved stables that are around 200 years old. Also located here is Northern Europe’s highest sundial. It is 12m high and indicates time with the incredible precision of around one minute, compared to the average 30 minutes of normal sundials.
Spend the night at the Hotel Nørherredhus, a lovely modern venue, designed for relaxation and comfort.
