Drive your seductive cabriolet in north Jutland
Aalborg to Hirtshals and Blokhus
Hirtshals Fyr (Lighthouse)
North Jutland offers mesmerising landscapes of wild seas, quaint coastal villages and a rich seafaring history. Set off in your Range Rover Evoque Convertible and explore this exciting region of Zealand Island.
Collect your rental in Aalborg and drive out of the city, northwards along the E39 to Hirtshals, a trip of about 67 km. This far north town is located on the coast and best known for its bustling Ferry Harbour. Spend time watching the boats coming and going and then drive to the famous Hirtshals Fyr, Lighthouse. This imposing white structure was opened in 1863 and was constructed in King Frederik VII’s time. Look out for his monogram above the entrance door. The lighthouse is 35m high and you can climb the 144 steps for panoramic views over the Skagerrak and Vendsyssel. The light from the lighthouse can be seen 25 nautical miles out to sea. Enjoy a cup of coffee and homemade cake in the lounge and learn all about the legend of “Peter the Horrible”, a mixture of human and bird of prey living on the cliff.
After coffee, drive to Skagen, at the northern tip of the Island. This picturesque peninsular looks out over the icy waters and demands some selfies!
Head back south along the coast to the seaside town of Løkken. It is popular with surfers and you can stroll on the beach and watch the pros in action.
Your next stop is Blokhus, an immensely popular town with a stunning beach. This once small fishing village now offers some of the best beaches in northern Europe with crystal clear water, white sands and towering dunes. After a dip in the water, visit the theme park Fårup summerland, filled with adrenaline pumping rides and fun for the whole family. Catch your breath and drive to Blokhus Salt, where you can learn all about how famous Danish salt is made.
Food is now a must – drive to Restaurant Futten, which is located in an old timbered house built in 1761. Try some of the delicious local freshly caught fish dishes. Relax in the lovely Sculpture Park before driving back to Aalborg for your night at the exclusive Scheelsminde, a 4-star hotel located in a stunning 19th century manor.
