If you have a week to spend exploring Switzerland, head out on the over 480-km journey we’ve laid out in your Audi R8 Spyder. This trip offers the best way to see some magnificent mountains, cities and lakes.
Start out in the town of Bern and take A12 south until you reach Gruyeres. The local castle was constructed in the late 1200s and is quite a site to see. In addition, there is a museum with artifacts brought from Tibet. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because they are famous for cheese.
From Gruyeres, head through the Jaunpass mountain road until you reach Lauterbrunnen. This town was the inspiration behind J.R.R. Tolkien’s City Rivendell. You might even want to add in an extra day to the trip and take the cable car to Aletsch Glacier. The pure majesty of this area will take your breath away and is well worth the extra day. Then, head north on A8 toward Lucerne where you can visit the Kappelbrücke which spans over the Reuss River.
Backtrack south on the A8 until you reach A2 east toward Altdorf. This is a German-speaking area so it will feel like a whole different vacation in the middle of your trip. Now, you’ll want to drive north on the A4 toward Landquart. Located at the Rhine River, there are plenty of fine dining establishments available perfect for completing your tour. Sit by the river and sip a glass of wine or stop by the famous chocolate shops for a rewarding treat. As the last leg of the trip, you’ll take Route 28 until you land in Val Mustair. There is also a great mixture of language and culture here to enjoy.
