BMW’s compact crossover SUV, the BMW X3 marks the second generation of the X3, and like the BMW X5 is presented as an SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle).
Available in two trims, as the X3 SE or the X3, there is a choice of three diesel engines, a 2.0-litre four cylinder with 181bhp (20d), and two 3.0-litre straight sixes with either 255 bhp (30d) or 309bhp (35d). The 20d is brisk and flexible, the 30d is impressively fast, whilst the 35d is even faster, achieving 62 mph in just 6.4 seconds and reaching a top speed of 149 mph. A six-speed manual is standard on the 20d, with an eight-speed automatic available as an option, whilst the 3.0-litre car has the automatic transmission as standard. Importantly for a 4x4, this car has agile and composed handling, an excellent driving position and steering that is responsive and well weighted. Electronic Stability Programme and traction control are both standard, giving excellent off-road capability. This car is built with the lowest emissions of any four-wheel drive premium sports activity vehicle on the market.
Driving the X3 is genuinely comfortable, and this car offers a fine balance between practicality and agility. Its classy cabin is well trimmed and spacious, with plenty of room for four adults and a large, well-shaped storage space. Fitted with the latest version of BMW’s iDrive controller, the cabin offers the ultimate combination of luxury, space and useful technology. Hire a BMW X3 in Europe and enjoy driving this impressive, fast and desirable family car.
