If you are looking to head out of town for a little in your Mini Clubman Estate, hop on the M50 and R755 for about 65 km until you reach the area of Glendalough. This is the perfect spot for anyone that loves hiking and historical spots. Inside the Wicklow Mountains, you can expect to see a beautiful bridge and the majestic Guinness Lake. Then, choose between the long hike route or the easier, intermediate hike. Either path you choose will lead you to a grand waterfall and overlook of the lakes.
While in Glendalough, you can also visit the monastic ruins from the 6th-century St. Kevin. You’ll find plenty of locations ideal for a picnic; perfect for recharging the soul.
Dundalk
Castles and churches
If churches and castles are what you want to explore, head north on the M1 in your Mini Cooper Cabriolet for about 80 km until you reach Dundalk. This area is immersed with historic churches including St. Patrick’s and St. Nicholas’s. Aside from that, the area boasts of numerous castles that you could spend days exploring. Some of the famous options are Castle Roche, built in 1236 and the Knockabbey Castle and Gardens which was built in 1399, but the gardens date back to the 11th century.
While you are in town, you might also want to check out the St Brigid’s Well plus the Dromiskin Round Tower and High Crosses. There is also the Windmill Tower which is an eight-story site that was built around 1800.Dundalk is also known for its rich music environment. In addition, depending what time of year you visit, you’ll find numerous festivals occurring such as the Carlingford Oyster Festival in August.
