Scenic Drive in Austria
Vienna to Salzburg
Multi-day road trip adventure
There is no sense in renting the Mini Cooper Cabriolet if you can’t head off on an adventure with your closest friends. Spend a week enjoying a scenic trip to Salzburg from Vienna to create some amazing memories that you can cherish forever. On the A1, it is about 295 km between the two destinations, but you’ll want to get off the main route and do some exploring.
Start in Vienna and head north for about 30 minutes until you are in Kahlenberg. This mountain is 1,500 feet high and provides some of the best views into Vienna. There is also a terrace and café located at the top of the mountain.
Next, you will head south for about 50 minutes until you reach Burg Liechtenstein. This exquisite castle dates back to the 12th century and is a sight to see. An hour from here is the Melk Abbey which is an 11th-century abbey featuring pristine gardens, vast art exhibits and a spectacular view of the Danube River.
Another hour’s journey will take you to Steyr which is an ancient city that has been around since the 10th century. If you have a little extra time, spend a few days here and explore all that there is to see. After taking a few days to rest, you’ll want to move on to the 90-minute drive through mountain roads until you reach the Gesäuse National Park. All nature enthusiasts will love this location and the various activities such as white water rafting, hiking and biking that it affords.
The 90-minute drive to Hallstatt gives you the best chance at some photo opportunities. This village is so stunning that you may find yourself wanting a few days here as well. Soak in the various mountain and lake views from around the town. Finally, you’ll end up in Salzburg. You may remember this town as being the birthplace of Mozart or the filming location of “The Sound of Music”. Either way, there’s a lot to enjoy here, especially if you are a fan of music.
Driving a luxury Mini for hire means you can enjoy everything there is to do in Austria and do it in style.
